Building a Volume Journal That Survives Busy Weeks
A journal fails when it demands art. Keep fields few, volume-focused, and quick enough to complete after a session.
Most traders abandon journals because the template is theatrical. Screenshots with twenty annotations look impressive and never get finished on a tired Thursday.
Use five fields: instrument, session state (balance or trend), key volume level, what volume confirmed or denied, and one sentence on your behavior. Attach one chart crop, not five.
Review weekly, not nightly. Look for repeated mistakes—entering before volume acceptance, ignoring higher-timeframe nodes, or moving stops when delta merely pauses. The journal’s job is pattern recognition across your own decisions, not a scrapbook of market trivia.
